When Will I Learn?

It not he first time, and it likely won't be the last. I'm short on yardage. Not a little bit. A lot. A third of a sweater worth, to be more specific.

My common senses failed me at the time I purchased this yarn. I clearly recall seeing the yarn, thinking it would make a great sweater, and grabbing four hanks- because it's sock yarn, and sock yarn has roughly 400yds per hank; 1200yds, give or take, should be plenty to get me through a sweater. And, it totally would have. Except, the hanks only have 220yds. DOH! Never fear, Windy Knitty came to my rescue, and forward progress is in my immediate future. I used the first four hanks for the sweater fronts and sleeves. And, I'm using the new hanks to make up the back. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I don't end up with an oddly color blocked cardigan. Some day, I will learn, obviously, that day has not yet come.

One final note before I go. If you're reading this post in a browser, you may have noticed some housekeeping and remodeling. As we creep towards the new year, I've spent a lot of time thinking about the direction I want to take this blog. Retrospectively, I feel "Will Knit for Food" too drastically limits the scope of things I want to continue posting here. So, I'm beginning to transition the site from its former domain (www.willknitforfood.com) to its new domain (www.tresbienensemble.com). I'm not entirely sure how smoothly this process is going to go. I was hoping the transfer of subscribers between domains would be relatively seamless; however, Support has informed me that I am unable to transfer my subscriptions between sites. I apologize in advance for any interruptions or glitches during the move. The new domain is live, so please feel free to update your RSS feed in order to side-step any discontinuity. I really appreciate each of you who makes a visit to my little space and hope you'll make the move with me.

Thank you! I am relieved that I will be able to get this sweater completed. I'm such a doofus for not reading the label!

I hope things work out for your sweater. I've done the same thing...

Thank you! I'm envious of the knitter who has been clever enough to not land in this predicament. :-D

It looks so pretty so far! I fear this every time I make a sweater. Do you like the yarn? I always think about trying Spud and Chloe, but because it's not in most shops I frequent, out of sight out of mind.

I LOVE the yarn. It's been wonderful to work with so far. It's a really sturdy strand, so I'm anticipating it will wear well and be durable. And the 20% silk gives the fabric a nice touch of luxury and a bit of shine.

I love 'tres bien ensemble'!!! great choice!! I just had the opposite thing going with yarn----ended up NOT using a third skein for a pair of men's socks that I was sure I was going to need. Now I have a boy-color self-striping skein and not sure what it will turn into.

Thanks for the support and encouragement. I had some doubts about it, but I think it's going to be a good name. :-D Good luck with that extra skein. I'm sure you'll find something marvelous to use it on.

That is unfortunate. The cardigan I am working on will be short of yarn very soon. At least I am using a mass produced yarn vs hand dyed so I think I can get away with it and I think you will too. I like the new site. It's really clean and easy to use!

Thank Heather. I've totally run out of yarn on a sweater I was knitting with a Cascade 220 color. And, it was suggested to me that I alternate every couple rows between the first and second lots to "blend the colors". It worked really well. Regardless, I'm sure your cardigan is going to be gorgeous.

We're knitters, we will never learn. We see yarn, must buy it, no idea what it will be, choose pattern, oops, not enough yarn. It's a curse, or fate, or the knitting Gods. But it sure keeps life interesting? Good luck on the finish.

D'oh! It was the sock yarn that was meant to be one skein per foot! I hope it all comes out all right!

I thought the name of your previous blog was cute and funny, am unsure what the new name means but wish you luck in the transformation. I don't think you can keep anything, traffic, traffic stats, url, etc when you change names...doesn't everythng change? Maybe, if that's the case you would be ahead to keep your blog as it was, but start a new blog to do different things? Curious about that. It may even be different in different blog types...blogspot vs workpress etc. Thanks for the visit, look forward to seeing you again. The sweater, I might have just really gone 2 colors when I realized I was short on yardage. Made a Buckeye sweater for my SIL once with one red sleeve one gray sleeve and the 2 fronts were the opposite colors, went with whichever color I had the most of for the back, and it turned out kinda cute. Good luck on the yarn matching!

You are totally correct about not being able to transfer subscribers and losing all statistical information associated with the old domain. But, there's no looking back now. The deed is done.

The new domain name is borrowed from the Beatles song, Michelle. Tres bien ensemble loosely means very well (put) together.

My Google Reader has been duly updated - and the site looks great! I'm dealing with the same stuff right now. I miss my old stats, but it's a lot of fun to get a new site going.
